NEW HOME PURCHASES
If you bought a new Home from a builder, and have found problems that are not being resolved to your satisfaction, it often feels like the weight of the entire house is on your shoulders, with nowhere to turn for help. In April of 2007, new home sales were on pace for a total of 981,000, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. This is an upward adjustment of 13 percent of the projected annual rates released just a month earlier, of 844,000. The median price of new homes in April 2007 was $229,100, with new home inventories being turned over twice in a 12 month period of time. What this means is that despite an increase in interest rates, making purchasing a home more costly for buyers, the demand continues to increase. With higher demand, comes higher production capacity by builders, more supplies needed to construct the homes and unfortunately, can lead to cutting corners or furnishing inadequate customer service after the sale. The most complained about concerns by homeowners with new construction are:
- Defective Materials
- Mold
- Siding
- Foundations
- Doors
- Windows
- Drywall Installation
- Floors and Flooring
- Ceilings
- Fireplace and Flu Operation
- Roofs
- Retaining Walls
- Grading and Soil Erosion
- Punch list items (varied)
